Common Core News
Last spring our students made history by taking the first all computerized State of Michigan standardized test, the M-Step in grades 3rd-6th grades. Students were tested in Reading, Writing, Math, Science (4th) and Social Studies (5th). The new test was a mixture of the new Common Core State Standards in mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies and the previous MEAP test.
The Common Core State Standards were developed from the top down, meaning college professors identified what academic skills college students needed to be proficient in to be successful in college. These skills were then broken down even further and placed from twelfth grade to kindergarten.
Our dedicated staff at Sam Adams has been busy unpacking the essential skills at each grade level and aligning our curriculum to match these standards, as well as, building and using assessments to drive our instruction.
Please view the Common Core State Standards for language arts and reading to help answer any questions you may have concerning what your child is learning in school.
