Mrs. Stermer's Biography
My name is Deb Stermer. This is my fourteenth year at Cassopolis Public Schools. I am currently in the position of Lead Teacher. For nine years I was a fourth grade teacher with my very first year being spent in fifth grade. I am excited about the prospect of the upcoming year. I look forward to working with students, staff, and parents.
I attended Western Michigan University where I graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree with triple minors. They include Elementary Education, Middle School Science, and Integrated Creative Arts. I also have my Early Childhood endorsement. I returned to Western Michigan University to obtain my Master's degree in K-12 Educational Leadership, which I completed at the end of April, 2016.
I am married and have two children. I live in Paw Paw on a farm with my husband, John, our daughter Kaitie, our dog Marley, and cat Marvin. Our son Michael graduated from Michigan State University and moved to Chicago to pursue his career goals in software sales. Kaitie attends Grand Valley State University, (GO LAKERS!), in Allendale, MI, which is Southwest of Grand Rapids. She has been inspired to become an educator herself! She is currently conducting her student internships in general and special education.
During my free time, which until April is limited, I enjoy reading. Some of my favorite genres are mysteries, humor and educational journals. I also enjoy walking! Seven years ago I completed a half marathon on Mackinaw Island. I am planning on running that again next October 2016. I do enjoy playing a good game of softball still to this day, but most of all I love spending time with my family and friends. Growing up on the east side of the state has helped me become one of the biggest Detroit Tigers fans!! Watching and attending Detroit Tiger baseball games is still a passion of mine during the spring, summer and fall. Go Tigers!!!!
